ANZAC Day 25th April 2015 How is Sunnyhills School remembering the soldiers who were ANZAC Soldiers many years ago?

Room 20 are standing next to 30 White Crosses representing some of the New Zealand Soldiers who were very brave and fought with other Soldiers from Australia in a Battle at Gallipoli a long time ago in 1915. These crosses are next to our school's office and you can come and see them. Other schools in Auckland are doing the same. At school we can learn about New Zealand's history and ANZAC Day is a very important part of our history.

Please talk about this day at home so that the children can understand a little about why we have a Holiday for
 ANZAC Day.

We made our own poppies as a way of remembering ANZAC Day. They are hanging in our classroom as our own field of Poppies.

Can you answer these questions?

Why do people wear poppies this week?

What does ANZAC stand for?

What do you know about ANZAC Day? Is anyone going to attend an ANZAC parade or Dawn Ceremony? If so please  tell us about it next week.
